Winter ascent of Ben Lomond - 31 Jan
31 January-02 February 2024
We will spend 2-days and 2-nights in cosy accommodation close to Loch Lomond itself and explore the local mountains in their cosy (or cold) winter jackets...
This trip will include a winter ascent of Ben Lomond - The most southerly munro (mountain) in Scotland!
To fully appreciate and enjoy a winter ascent, it is best to be properly prepared for the winter environment - with an early start, good crampon technique and the right equipment all helping to give a truly memorable mountain day.
This trip is suitable for anyone with summer mountain hiking experience and a good level of fitness. Winter hiking experience is not necessary - A Full day of winter skills tuition will be provided prior to attempting the hike to the summit of this fantastic mountain with 360-degree, panoramic views of loch Lomond and the surrounding national park!
As always, we’ll sort out the travel, transfers and accommodation so just meet in London and leave the rest to us.
Friday (from 6pm) - Meet in outside Euston train station for a relaxing train journey to Scotland. You will be met in Glasgow and transferred to your accommodation for the night
Saturday - A full introduction to what we will be doing before journeying in the local area to the snow line for an introduction to the winter environment, an introduction/revision of ice axe/cramponing skills and the style of mountaineering required for a winter ascent.
Sunday - An early start, to make the most of the day, we will make our way to the summit of Ben Lomond. The specific route we take will depend on experience, ability and weather conditions.
We will then make our way back to Glasgow for your return train to London
